Bring On The Next Robo

[The Original Robotech: transform...um, I mean, change!]
Written by GL

Are you ready for another robot-centric movie theme? Hollywood seems to think so. After Transformers: The Movie, everything has taken off and it doesn't seem to want to stop. Just a few days ago, you heard that Voltron was being adapted, now: it's Robotech.

Warner Bros. Pictures has picked up the rights to bring the classic Robotech to the big screen. If any of your retro fans remember, Robotech featured mechas (piloted by humans). And guess who is producing and hoping to star in the movie: Tobey Maguire. That's right. Spiderman himself. And, in case you didn't know, he has his own production company, called Maguire Entertainment.

[Tobey Maguire: not to be confused with Jerry Maguire, who just doesn't exist]

'We are very excited to bring Robotech to the big screen,' Maguire said. 'There is a rich mythology that will be a great foundation for a sophisticated, smart and entertaining film'.

Also producing will be Drew Crevello, and writing the screenplay is Craig Zahler.

Robotech was totally out of the 80s and was re-edited and re-dialogued to combine three Japanese different anime series into one - just so the producers had enough episodes to air daily. Let's sit and see how this one shapes up.
