G.I. Joe Starts The Casting

[Stephen Sommers: the director and part-time cop]
Written by GL

Paramount Pictures has announced the beginning date of casting for G.I. Joe to start filming for mid-February 2008 in Prague and Los Angeles. Stephen Sommers (famous for such films as Van Helsing, The Mummy Returns and The Mummy) will be directing the show, from a script written by Stuart Beattie.

Because all films are named misleadingly just to throw off the press, the studio is currently calling the film, Untitled Stephen Sommers Project.

Produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the live-action feature is based on those super Hasbro action figures that we all know and love. The film has a lot of information and back-story to use; G.I. Joe background was compiled during the 1980s through 155 issues of Marvel Comics, as well as a popular animated TV series. There are about 30 core characters, good and evil, that can also be used in the film.

We'll be monitoring intended plot line as the weeks develop, super friends.
